Biography

Miranda Mills prides herself on being an active trial lawyer who is unafraid to advocate for her clients in a courtroom, because she knows what it is like to be involved in family court. Miranda’s husband fought for and won custody of his son (Miranda’s stepson) when he was a toddler. This experience gives her a powerful understanding of how stressful and uncertain family courts can be. This personal experience has also motivated her to continue to advance her skills in the courtroom. She recently attended the prestigious Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College in order to continue advancing her courtroom advocacy skills. She has been named Top 40 Under 40 by the National Trial Lawyers Association and a Super Lawyers Rising Star.

Miranda is also an active member in the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ) Family Law Section.  In 2022, Miranda served as the Program Chair for the NCAJ’s “Family Law in the Age of COVID” event.  Miranda was also a guest speaker at the event, presenting information to fellow attorneys regarding third party custody cases.  In 2019, Miranda co-authored the first edition of the New Lawyers Survival Guide and was featured as a Rising Star in the April 2019 edition of NCAJ Trial Briefs magazine.

Miranda graduated from Wake Forest University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in International Studies. During college, she volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem, speaking on behalf of abused and neglected children during court proceedings. She decided to pursue her interest in the legal field after finishing college by working as a paralegal. Ultimately, she decided to attend law school. She graduated from Wake Forest School of Law in 2010 in the top 25% of her graduating class and was a Notes & Comments Editor for the Wake Forest Law Review. While in law school, Miranda received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for her coursework in Children & Domestic Violence. She also received the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers “Book Award” for her coursework in Trial Practice. After graduation, Miranda began her career representing individuals in domestic and criminal court.

When Miranda is not working, she is spending time with her husband and three children.
